Staying on track of their cars’ routine maintenance can be a challenge for some people, especially those who lead busy lives. Maintenance is important, however, so you never want to forget to bring your car to your service center. Luckily, there are a few simple things you can do to help you remember to bring your vehicle to the shop and have it checked out.
Use Your Calendar
Perhaps the easiest way to remember routine maintenance for your vehicle is to use your calendar to your advantage. If you have a physical planner, you can do this the old-fashioned way. As soon as you get your new car, sit down with your calendar and your service schedule and make reminders for every service interval so you don’t forget. If you keep your calendar on your phone, this is even easier. Simply input dates in the digital calendar, being sure to set the reminders. An easy alternative is to just write a note, such as “Car service. Check maintenance schedule,” so you don’t have to write down what services are needed.
Download an App
If you are like most Americans and have a smartphone, you can go to the app store and look for an application that reminds you about scheduled maintenance. There are plenty of options for all types of phones, including iPhones, Androids, and Windows phones. Most will just ask you the make, model, and year of your vehicle and then send you reminders at appropriate intervals. Some can even make service appointments for you.
Talk to Your Mechanic
Some mechanics and service centers will actually have reminder programs set up. Not all will have this option in place, but it is worth asking. If there isn’t a specific program to remind you about routine maintenance, ask how far in advance you can make appointments. Then, take the time to make all your service appointments at one time. The service center will at least give you a phone call to remind you about the service.
