Saint Patrick’s Day Activities for the Family

Happy Saint Patrick's Day calendar, cupcake, and decorations

Saint Patrick’s Day rolls around on March 17th. You can have fun with family and friends by incorporating fun DIYs and activities into your celebratory plans. Check out these recommendations and prepare for a holiday to remember.

Dig for Gold

You can dig for gold this Saint Patty’s Day, right in the comfort of your own home!

Here’s what you’ll need: Gold coins, shaving cream, green glitter, 3 drops of green food coloring, a spoon, and a large bowl (using a clear one would be best).

Step 1: Spray shaving cream about 3/4 way into your large bowl. Then, add in 3 drops of green food coloring.

Step 2: Sprinkle a hefty portion of glitter on top of the shaving cream. Then, take your spoon and stir until everything is thoroughly mixed.

Step 3: Drop in the gold coins, being sure to tuck them away toward the bottom of the bowl. Then, top it with an additional layer of shaving cream.

Step 4: Have some paper towels handy and let the digging begin!

Game Tip: Consider doing this with multiple bowls of the same size and add the same number of gold coins to each one. Then, allow the kids to play and see who can find all of their coins the fastest!

Build a Leprechaun House

Here’s what you’ll need: A birdhouse, mod podge, a mod podge stencil, paintbrushes, Emerald green paint, Tea green paint, glitter, and a saw.

Step 1: Using your saw, cut the circle hole in the birdhouse into the shape of a door.

Step 2: Paint the birdhouse with the Emerald green paint. Once dry, lightly brush the Tea green on top of the Emerald green coat, creating light streaks. (Be sure not to completely cover the first coat. This is supposed to create an aged look.)

Pro Tip: Clean and dry your brush in between paint colors.

Step 3: Mix together the mod podge and the glitter. (Consider using a disposable bowl when mixing). Then, place the stencil on the desired area of the bird house and brush the glitter podge onto it.

Step 4: Allow the birdhouse to dry completely, and you’re done!
