These models can get better fuel economy because of the compact induction motor mounted on the engine’s accessory drive. The motor provides a regenerative capability of up to 15 kW, giving you as much as 44 pound-feet of torque and 13 horsepower in certain conditions. The models with eAssist will also have a liquid-cooled power inverter module along with a 0.45 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with 24 cells and air-cooling. This system only weighs 100 pounds and provides great fuel savings. The Sierra 1500 with eAssist has the same power and torque as other models with the same engine and can tow 9,400 pounds.
eAssist Technology Availability
If you want to drive the Sierra with eAssist, then you will have to choose the SLT trim level and a Crew Cab along with 2WD. You also need to add the SLT Premium Plus Package. This is a combination that already works to emphasize fuel efficiency, making the results of the eAssist technology even more impressive. The combination lets you get extreme efficiency along with premium features.
Unfortunately, you may have to wait a little bit longer to drive a GMC Sierra 1500 with eAssist around Milton, Florida. GM will first offer it in California before expanding based on the market.
